The Certified Finance Leader (CFL) examination is a comprehensive, proctored assessment designed to evaluate applied competency in operational finance leadership and operational accounting.
The examination is built around the Six Pillars of Operational Finance Leadership, assessing the processes, systems, analytics, controls, leadership capabilities, and strategic competencies required to operate, improve, and scale modern finance functions.

The CFL examination is designed around the level of applied competency expected of experienced finance professionals responsible for operating, improving, and leading finance functions. It is not designed as an entry-level accounting examination.

Preparing for the CFL Examination
There is no mandatory coursework required before taking the CFL examination. Candidates may prepare independently using their professional experience and knowledge.
The CFL Study Guide provides structured preparation across the Six Pillars and is recommended for candidates who want to review the complete competency framework before attempting the examination.

Certification Fees
Initial CFL Examination Fee: $399
Annual Membership Dues: $150
Recertification Assessment Fee: $199 every three years
The initial examination fee and annual membership dues total $549. Recertification is completed every three years through a 50-question recertification assessment.
After You Apply
Applications are reviewed by CFL Institute before examination access is issued. Approved candidates receive instructions for accessing and completing the proctored examination.
Candidates who achieve the 75% passing standard must maintain current annual membership before their CFL certificate and active credential are issued.
